'The Fall' is the event described at the start of the Bible where the human race rejected God and was then cast into darkness.
This page links particularly well with the suffering and evil topic. The original text can be found in Genesis 2 and 3 (the best thing is for you to read that as well).
1. Perfection
God make everything perfectly.
2. Adam and Eve: freedom
For the first people, Adam and Eve, there is great
freedom to have anything they like in the garden.
There is one tree that they can't take from.
3. God's command: don't touch!
God makes a promise to them that if they do eat
from that tree they will end up dying and bringing
suffering to the world.
4. The devil slithers in
The devil (in the form of a speaking snake) says
that the death threat isn't real.
5. They give in to temptation
They eat.
6. Something happens...
Something happens to their awareness.
7. Naked and hiding
They start to hide because they feel naked and
guilty.
8. God turns up
God catches up with them...
9. Expelled!
They are booted out of paradise. No way back.
10. Death shadow
The shadow of death hangs over them and their
children (the rest of the human race).
Read through the Genesis text. Make a note of where the 10 boxes occur on the text. Is the cartoon accurate or would you change any of it to make it more clear? If you had to add or take away, what choices would you make?
Look closely at the curse (in the text) is there any link to today's world?
Do you understand how this links to the mission of Jesus dying on the cross?
