What I am going to write about is Hindu beliefs, more importantly Samsara and/or the rebirth cycle.
Hinduism is more of a way of life than a religion. By this I mean that not all of its followers believe the same thing. But however the beliefs I am going to write about and I am studying are the ones of which almost all Hindus agree on and the most important of all the beliefs.

Dharma
Word meaning-the duties of living
Hindus believe that in your life you have a series of duties. These are called dharma. Theses duties are not the same for each person depending on your family backgrounds your job, your selection of friends and many other things. Here are some of the duties you are expected to do in your life time: worship god, do your job properly, don’t hurt other people or animals, and be honest. It is up to you as an individual to do these duties of the dharma as well as they can for this to Hindus is their first aim in life.

Reincarnation
Word meaning-belief that the soul is reborn
This is a very important part of the Hindu teaching. It is the belief that the soul is reborn after death. It is thought that your soul moves to another being for example if you led a good life maybe you would return to a god but however if you had led a bad life full of sins maybe an insect…
They believe that your soul moves through a series of steps which begin in plants and animals and go on towards human beings. When a soul of a man or women dies it is almost put into another body of another person. This cycle of birth and death is called Samsara.

Word meaning- action
The type of person your soul moves on to depends on how you had lived your previous life. This is called the law of karma. A good karma in your last life will mean a good life the next time etc.
In Hinduism they don’t believe that you are judged by god. How you live will decide whether your next step is up or down. Steps may be missed out, depending on the karma. Some believe that doing something very bad will determine your soul to be born again in an animal, but doing something good will mean that your soul is given a rest before its next life.

Moksha
Word meaning- end of rebirth cycle
The end of the Samsara is called Moksha. It is what every Hindu hopes to achieve. The soul breaks out of the rebirth cycle and joins with Brahman (The great power). Hindus say ‘That this is like a river merging into the sea.’
This however can only happen when the soul becomes completely pure. Then the soul can go back to Brahman, where it began……….
